You can view the full election results here.
Here are my thoughts:
-The turnout looks awesome. Over 1,000 (not 3,000, as I posted earlier) votes cast, that is amazing. Seems like almost all of them were freshmen, but still.
-This is a big night for Mark Bittner. The Senator representing the Campus-at-Large got re-elected, and did so by getting more votes than anybody else did for any seat. I would venture to say that this could make him a leading candidate for President when the spring rolls around.
-There are going to be a lot of new faces in the Senate. By my rough count, only 12 current members will be returning.
-It appears, again this is just my rough count, that only one current Senator was not re-elected.
There is one session of the fourth Undergraduate Senate left, and it will be taking place on Sunday. Some great legislation on the docket, so stay tuned. I also look forward to covering the new Senate. Every Senate has their own characteristics. This current one has left a legacy as being the body that was constantly involved with internal SG issues (go back to the AUTO situation last year, all of the way up through the Comptroller scandal and Constitutional Amendment this year). What will the next Senate be known for? That is up to these newly elected individuals to decide.
