-A Bill to Reform Proxies in the Undergraduate Senate-A Bill to Amend the Bylaws of the Student Government (Legislation Turnover)-A Bill to Amend the Bylaws of the Student Government (Proxies)
Awesome job guys. Here are some issues that people really care about. You know, I was in TDR the other day, and I overheard students talking about how much they really wanted to see the bylaws of the SG reformed. They weren't concerned about the housing sham that's going on, their crappy meal plans, the fact that Founder's Day might not happen, or the fact that the brand new awning by MGC collapsed and could have killed somebody after it got snowed on. Nope. They were just really concerned about the bylaws of the SG.
To be fair, there is also A Bill to Support Accessible Fire Exits. I guess that is somewhat important. But the majority of this nonsense is just a waste of everyone's time. Including mine. I can't believe I bothered to type this. Memo to the Senate: WORK ON ISSUES THAT MATTER TO STUDENTS AND MAYBE THEN THEY WON'T ALL HATE YOU. Why is it so hard for them?

I couldn't have said it better myself. This is literally "debating how to debate".
ReplyDeletenow this is what we have come to expect from this blog. no more of that independent journalist bullshit. tell us what you really think.
ReplyDeleteglad to see this is seth rosenstein's blog now ::sarcasm::
ReplyDeleteTake a look at what ELSE is on the agenda.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead an nit-pick if you'd like, but the fact remains that substantive legislation IS on deck for the Senate.
Perhaps if Rosenstein spent a little more time doing his job and a little less time pointing his finger at others he would see that.
To the last anonymous poster: 3/5 bills today are SG bylaws amendments. I had to request a copy of today's agenda from a senator. Maybe you should read a copy of your own because you're clearly a disgruntled senator. Calling out SG bullshit should be a senator's job.
ReplyDeleteI think the problem here is understanding where the SG is and where it has been...compared to some of the organizations that have come before it such as the Student Confederation, which had been around for at least 20 to 30 years, the SG is very, very young and doesn't have the fully developed structure that its predecessors had that would allow for even more issue based legislation.
ReplyDeleteYes, the SG should attempt to pass and act upon more substantive legislation - that is to say, legislation that actually has something administrators can use - however, can we fault an organization for conducting the business of bettering itself to better serve the student body? For a macro-level example, what type of government would the US Government be if it just worked on "issues" and never worked through its inadequacies to better handle these issues?
Should they do more work on campus issues, looking to true advocacy as their bread and butter? Absolutely, without question. However, I would like to know that an organization with over $700,000 of our money to utilize has some type of structure or is working to improve upon what's there.
Mike Mayer, you bore me again. I am reading through your blog since it has become all the craze recently. This is just mind mush, and while I realize that is what some forms of blogging are I thought you might hold yourself to a higher standard.
ReplyDeleteIt has taken Anthony Dunham to come in and put some actual, substantive, thoughtful analysis into the situation. Well done sir.
Oh how I wish you where enlightened Mr. Mayer, or at least possessed the brain power to make some thoughtful analysis. How the f*** did you get in this school?
