Handverger Resigns

In a letter to the SG today, Matt Handverger officially resigned from his position as Comptroller. His letter was both passionate, and not extensively edited (he misspelled MacCracken's name). In it, he criticizes "certain members of the Student Government" that "were on a witch-hunt against" him. He also leaves open the possibility that he might run at some point in the future for SG office again, although he cannot say for certain.

I got the feeling in the final days of his impeachment proceeding that he was becoming, in some way, a cult hero among people that followed the matter on campus. Students seemed to feel like the charges against him were either completely unfounded or, at the very least, petty. They also made it clear that they felt the SG ought to be spending its time doing other things. His letter today certainly seemed like an attempt to play off of that. Don't be surprised if you once again see Matt Handverger's name appear on a ballot during an SG election in the next year or so.
