Seth Rosenstein is in

He becomes the second candidate to officially announce that he has decided to run for President, along with Anthony Dunham. Nirvana Habash, Andy MacCracken, and Nate Bronstein (new to my list) are among the other rumored candidates. Bronstein told me via email: "I am seriously considering it, but at this time I have not made any final decisions."

Rosenstein, a Senator representing the class of 2012, had been rumored to be a potential candidate since the fall. Although he is a member of the Senate, he seems poised to try and position himself as the outsider that many often look for. He said in his statement to me: "Change is needed."

His full statement:

In the past few months, Student Government has produced a number of great successes that promote the interest of students. Recently however, I have been forced to question what the true mission of the SG is; to engage in constant parliamentary wrangling and, in many cases, a failure of stated goals, or to promote the interest and welfare of American University students. Sadly the latter has not been the case. This is absolutely unacceptable.

With this in mind I have decided that my time and effort over the next year would be best spent working toward improving the SG and promoting the interests of students as President of the Student Government. Change is needed and the same old SG business isn't going to get it done. I have the experience needed to understand how the SG works, as well as the outsider view on how to improve it. Overall I want to fundamentally change how the Student Government works. The SG needs to focus on the students instead of taking itself too seriously. We've seen plenty of discussion about improving the shuttles, supporting sustainable energy projects, having great events and gender neutral housing; sadly we haven't seen enough progress. Instead of debating how to debate, I want to take on the issues and engage the student body.

  3. Andy really shouldn't running again. As for Nate, he's extremely personable but I don't think he has what it takes to be President.

Seth's statement really captures the essence of what I want to see. If he is able to put his plan into action, we're going to see great things.

  5. interesting how the list from last october pretty much matches what's going on now

all you have to do is replace Bittner or Alves with Bronstein

  6. Not sure how I missed Bronstein. I should have seen that one coming.

  7. Nate is just an extension of Andy. He'll have the same election chances as Andy...which are very poor.
